I was self-employed and owned a taxi business for twenty years. I had thought about pursuing a career in social care for a long time and with my children all grown up, I felt that it was the right time to come to college.

I have had a very positive experience over the past three years. I’ve found the lecturers to be extremely supportive and encouraging which has given me the belief that I have the ability to go on to university and further my education even more.

I feel really fortunate and pleased that I have won this award. It’s given me a massive confidence boost, and it’s great to know that the lecturers believed in me. My confidence has really grown.

I have been given sessional work with a day care centre working with adults with learning difficulties, which came about through a work experience placement as part of the course. As well as this, I’m continuing to volunteer with Children 1st.

Now I’m studying towards BA (Hons) Social Work at Glasgow Caledonian University, which is fantastic as I’m working towards my dream job of being a social worker, working with adoption and fostering, helping children and families.
