After working for ten years as a chef, I felt I needed a change. After completing my professional cookery qualifications at the college many years ago, I decided to come back to focus on the management side of the industry.
I absolutely loved returning to college! My personal highlight was competing in the Toque d’Or national competition in London. I’ve met some fantastic people throughout my time at college, and found new confidence which helped me to achieve ‘A’ grades in my two graded units.
Completing this course really improved my communication, team working and customer service skills. It helped me understand how to set up and run a professional restaurant or hotel. As part of my course I worked at the Highgrove House Hotel where I developed many skills including serving drinks and meals, and setting up function suites.
Winning this award proves to me that my hard work has been worth it and it is really special to be acknowledged in this way. I would like to thank my lecturers for their support and I would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking about studying for a career in hospitality.
I recently started a job at the Horizon Hotel, where I aim to work hard and improve my skills. In the future I would like to work my way up to hotel manager.
