I have been at Ayrshire College for the last six years. For the first three I studied Professional Cookery which I really enjoyed. However, I felt that cooking was more of a hobby for me rather than what I wanted to do as a career. I had always liked science at school and decided this is what I wanted to study for a career.
There is a great atmosphere at Ayrshire College. The lecturers are really helpful and the science lab facilities are excellent. Completing presentations in front of the class, working with others and taking part in core skills training greatly improved my self-confidence.
Winning this award was a great surprise but one that I really appreciate. It means a lot to me and is recognition for all the hard work I’ve put in over the last few years. It has given me a great confidence boost before I go to Glasgow Caledonian University to study Food Bioscience.
Longer term I am really interested in working in a laboratory, especially in the areas of food safety or environmental health. I would highly recommend Ayrshire College to anyone thinking about beginning a career in science. I’ve had a great experience and been supported at all stages by great lecturers who have shown me how exciting science can be.
Marti Anderson, Curriculum Manager for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics said “Lloyd progressed through Level 5 and 6 Biomedical Sciences courses to the HNC Applied Science course this year, and he worked hard throughout.
“His self-confidence has grown enormously this year and he’s shown great determination and maturity. His progress has been a pleasure to watch and he took ownership of all his subjects and delivered consistently good performances in all his work.”
