I was a full-time mum before coming to college. I had intended to study hairdressing but as time progressed I realised it wasn’t for me. My lecturer noticed make-up work that I had created and persuaded me that I had a real talent for make-up artistry, so I decided to go for it!
I really enjoyed my time at college, and have learned so many skills. It’s a great place to learn new things or top up your skills. Going to college helped boost my confidence a lot. My advice to anyone in a similar position is to just go for it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
As well as learning different make-up techniques, I learned how to be part of a team. During a work experience placement, I worked behind the scenes at a theatre production. I learned how everyone interacts with each other to produce a show, it’s definitely all about the team work!
I feel overwhelmed, but completely over the moon to have been chosen as Student of the Year. I plan to have a successful career in make-up artistry, and continue to learn as much as I can about the industry.
Lori Anne’s lecturer said “Lori Anne is very creative, talented and is able to think outside the box. She beat off competition in the Make-up Artistry Awards, winning an award and a two week internship in London. As well as this, Lori Anne has had her work featured in European Magazines. She will go far in the make-up industry.”
