Before studying at Ayrshire College, I had gone to Glasgow College of Nautical Studies on a cadetship with the Merchant Navy. I then travelled in Europe for a few years.

After travelling I felt I had seen and experienced so much. I felt it was time to choose a career path and settle into studying and applied for Ayrshire College.

I was really worried about returning to College as I had been out of education for a while. My lecturers were amazing. They really helped and encouraged me. The support I received made it all less stressful, I felt comfortable and soon settled back into studying.

The HNC Accounting has taught me loads. I have become more confident at writing essays, reports and answering any questions in assessments. I was out of practice with this kind of thing.

I feel really overwhelmed to have won this award. I knew I had put a lot of work in so it’s really nice that this has been recognised. I was still pretty shocked that I had been chosen. This will be really great for my CV.

Successful completion of the course has allowed me entry into the second year of a degree at university. I will be applying for a summer placement with Deloitte. Deloitte’s financial services industry specialists provide comprehensive, integrated solutions to the banking, insurance, and investment management sectors.

During my time at College someone from the Deloitte spoke to the class about the opportunities available with them. So as well as gaining valuable knowledge and skills at College the links they have with industry allow you to meet with inspiring individuals from the “business world”.

I would totally recommend the College to anyone. The support and encouragement given was amazing. The Accounting course was great. The Lecturers made every new topic interesting and engaging.
