I started on the Prince’s Trust programme aged 18. On completion I volunteered as an Assistant Team Leader for Princes Trust and PEZ, assisting with the delivery of the College’s first ever PEZ programme.
I am now employed as a Section Leader for Asda in the Ardrossan store. I am in charge of Service which includes checkouts, self-scan, kiosk, porters and click and collect. I am responsible for over 70 staff and my main duties include planning rotas, recruitment, organising training and implementing disciplinary procedures.
My time at college helped improve my confidence and communication skills. I now use the skills I gained in my day to day role, for example, I carried out mock interviews with PEZ classes, now I interview applicants for jobs within the store.
I’ve learned that you should never judge a book by its cover, always give people a chance. Staff at the College put their faith in me. I was given the opportunities I needed to turn my life around. I now try to offer the same opportunities to others.
