I left school at the end of 6th year with Intermediate 1’s and 2’s. I wanted to build on the qualifications I had so college was the best option for me. I was unsure exactly what I wanted to study but knew it had to be a practical based course.

I initially completed an NC in Electrical Engineering at the Kilmarnock campus and was planning to progress to the HNC, however after a visit to the Aeronautical Building at the Ayr campus I changed my mind.

I was really impressed with the facilities and after seeing the 'Bulldog' I just knew that Aircraft Engineering was the right path for me. I joined the NC Aeronautical Engineering.

I was really reserved when I first started college, really shy and not great at communicating. Throughout my time I grew in confidence and became much more forthcoming. I received an Excellence Award after completing the NC, this really gave me a boost. It was so encouraging and made me realise that my hard work was being recognised so there was no doubt about continuing to HNC level. Winning this award now makes me feel fantastic. I am really proud of myself.

As well as learning extremely useful practical skills I have developed my team working and problem solving abilities and really grown as a person. I would recommend the College to anyone, I enjoy everything about it. The lecturers present course work really clearly. I enjoy learning independently, knowing that support is available if required. I could never have gone straight from school to university but the College has been a perfect stepping stone.

I am now on the HND Aircraft Engineering course after completing that I’ll be applying for University. My dream job is to gain employment with a reputable company within aircraft maintenance.

I’m very proud of this achievement. I’m happy to see that my journey through college has made me worthy of this award and I will treasure it in the future. I’m happy that I was able to show my skills and gain recognition from the College, as this only pushes me more to do well in the future.

I would absolutely recommend Ayrshire College to anyone moving on to further education. Not only does it provide a top education experience but it also helps young people mature and plan the future they want with no pressure or judgement.
