If you’re looking for a practical course where you can express your creative skill sets in acting, this is the one for you.

For entry to this course you’ll need:

  • A real passion for performance
  • A minimum of two relevant Highers including Drama ORa relevant NC course at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent such as NC Acting and Performance
  • An audition and interview with us

If you don’t have formal qualifications, but have relevant experience or training, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please call us for a chat.

What's Involved

The course gives you the opportunity to devise and perform a variety of pieces in different professional environments, including a community production tour at Christmas and a summer show in our newly renovated campus theatre.

You’ll be taught by staff who are themselves experienced actors, with in depth knowledge of how to audition and perform to the best of your potential. All your productions will be supported by our Technical Theatre course crews, to give you a truly professional experience.

Here’s more on what you’ll be doing:

  • You’ll develop your acting skills and build on your on-screen performance skills through acting for camera. You’ll also explore different acting methods and practitioners.
  • You’ll expand your voice skills, looking at aspects such as posture, pitch, tone and articulation, and develop your vocal techniques.
  • You’ll develop movement skills, beginning with exercise and fitness, and take part in a group movement study.
  • You’ll look at the role and value of community drama and take part in a local project.
  • You’ll develop skills for production, from researching a text, to rehearsing techniques and performing a full length production to an audience.
  • You’ll also look at text and performance, exploring dramatic texts, looking at characterisation through the dramatist’s language and demonstrating it through performance.

Go Anywhere

When you successfully complete this course, you’ll have the choice of:

  • Moving onto HND Performing Arts (subject to an audition)
  • Moving onto a performance related degree course at university
  • Exploring your future career options which might include: Actor (for TV, Commercial Productions, Theatre, Musical Theatre or in the Community); Script Writer; Director; Producer; Deviser or Drama Teacher
