The automotive industry is massive and keeps the country moving on a daily basis - from cars and public transport, to couriers, HGVs and emergency vehicles. Plus, let’s not forget the fun side too -motor sports!

Our motor vehicle courses are delivered through the internationally recognised IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) to give you the skills you need for a great career. You’ll have the added benefit of learning in our superb garage facilities which reflect industry standards, including the latest diagnostic equipment. You’ll also be taught by experienced industry professionals, who keep their skills and knowledge of modern technologies fully up to date through our Continuous Professional Development programme.

So, if you’re thinking about a career in the motor industry, let’s get you started!

For entry to this course you’ll need:

  • A real interest in the motor industry
  • A relevant NC course at SCQF Level 2 or equivalent, such as any form of engineering
  • An interview with us

If you don’t have any formal qualifications, but have life experience, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please call us for a chat.

What's Involved

This is a real practical course and you’ll spend most of your time in the garage workshop.

We’ll help you develop your skills for employment, such as working as part of a team and creating a CV to get you noticed.

You’ll be introduced to all vehicle-related systems, including engines, emissions, exhausts, electrical, brakes, fuel, starting, steering and suspension. You’ll get to know a vehicle inside and out, and learn how to perform a range of routine checks.

You’ll look at the effects of vehicles on the environment, including alternative fuels and electric vehicles.

You’ll also learn about workshop safety and maintenance, vehicle construction and fitting components.

Go Anywhere

When you successfully complete this course, you’ll have the choice of:

  • Moving on to a relevant SCQF Level 4 course such as IMI Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
