For entry to this course, you’ll need to have:

  • an HNC Hospitality
  • a successful interview with us

It’s also really valuable if you can gain experience of working in the industry while you’re on this course.

What's Involved

A key part of this course is management of food and beverage operations, so you’ll take part in live events. Working in a team, you’ll plan, organise, deliver and evaluate an event. You’ll come up with the idea or theme - e.g. a Burns Supper, Chinese New Year Celebration, Valentine’s Dinner or a charity event - and then get to work! From big tasks to tiny details, you’ll do the lot - publicity, licence application, menus, food order, table decorations and more.

Other skills you’ll learn (and practice when you’re planning for and reporting on your event) include:

  • Team management
  • Business finance & management
  • Accommodation management
  • Developing & delivering staff training

You’ll also have the chance to:

  • Participate in real functions such as business events or bespoke dinners.
  • Visit distilleries or hotels such as Trump Turnberry, Lochgreen House in Troon or the Hilton Glasgow.
  • Join in Masterclasses from local industry professionals.
  • Hear top tips on how to get ahead in hospitality from leading employers, successful venue owners and industry suppliers.
  • Take part in competitions such as inter-campus competitions or the national Student Team Challenge.
