Introduction to Cake Decorating
This course runs on a Tuesday evening in Kilmarnock Thursday evening in Ayr from 6pm - 9pm for 12 weeks. These times include a period for shut down procedures at the end of the night.
From 24 Sep 2019
Do you admire and enjoy beautifully decorated cakes? If you’d like to learn how to become a star decorator, either on a personal or professional level, this is the course for you.
You don’t need any formal qualifications, just an apron, tea towel and container for your cakes so you can take them home and enjoy!
Introduction to Cake Decorating is a mandatory unit of the National Progression Award in Bakery, but it can be taken on its own purely for enjoyment.
This course is great fun, giving you basic knowledge of the principles of cake decorating techniques, along with the practical skills to perform them.
You’ll learn how to prepare and apply a range of cake fillings and coatings such as buttercream, sugar paste, ganache, chocolate coating, water icing, fondant, royal icing, frosting and marzipan.
You’ll coat and decorate a whole variety of cakes types such as Victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate brownie, carrot cake, coconut cake, gingerbread, muffins and cup cakes.
And you’ll decorate a range of shapes too, including round, square, oblong, hexagonal or even something a bit different.
As you might imagine, there’s a lot of weighing and measuring involved, so it’s also a great chance to develop your numeracy skills too.
On successful completion of this course, you might want to consider further study either on a full-time or part-time basis, such as our NC Bakery course or Professional Cookery (Patisserie and Confectionery) at Level 7.
This course is eligible for Fee Waiver, depending on individual circumstances. For further information on funding go to our Funding and Fees tab to the right.
