What's Involved

Travel and tourism is an exciting and enjoyable industry to work in. If you’d like to work with people and help them to have a fabulous visit or holiday experience, this course will develop the skills and knowledge you need - like all our tourism courses, it’s fun, modern and completely relevant to the current tourism industry.

With this Level 6 course, you’ll develop your knowledge and skills in travel and tourism by looking at tourism in Scotland - how important it is to the Scottish economy, how we can sell Scotland to people as a destination to visit and what it’s got to offer tourists. You’ll then look at tourist destinations across the UK and also worldwide, so you’ll know where to find key places and attractions across the planet.

You’ll focus on ‘visitors’ - who they are, how to manage their expectations (from a day trip or a business trip, to an event or holiday of a lifetime) and the importance of good customer care.

You’ll look at all the various aspects of the tourism industry - from retail and transport, to accommodation and hospitality, and why events are an important aspect of attracting visitors.

You’ll find out how travel agents work, how airports operate and how to market your destinations, including making best use of digital and social media.

You’ll also:

  • Visit tourist attractions such as the stunning Culzean Castle or magical Christmas markets in Glasgow or Edinburgh. You might also take a trip to Loch Lomond or sail over to the beautiful islands of Arran or Cumbrae.
  • Have the opportunity to plan, produce and evaluate a real life event.
  • Hear from professional industry experts who’ll give you their top tips for working successfully in the travel and tourism sector.
