Introduction to Masonry Repair

For entry to this course, you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience. The course is suitable for a wide range of learners including school leavers, learners progressing from a lower level award in construction or a closely related discipline, adult returners to education or learners with previous construction employment experience who wish to enhance their career prospects.
What you must have is a real interest in construction and a desire for physical work outdoors in all weathers. The ability to work at height on scaffolding would be required. You’ll also need to come in for interview.
This introductory course is delivered in partnership with South Ayrshire Council and Morrison Construction. The course involves gaining the skills in lime mortar pointing in a live project repairing a historic stone walled garden in Belleisle Park in Ayr. If you are interested in learning about masonry repairs and lime mortar pointing and prefer practical hands-on work, then this is the course for you.
As well as a range of practical activities, you will learn about health & safety within the construction industry. You will also be given the opportunity to learn core skills to help you develop a range of transferable skills to enhance your future employment or self-employment.
You will also have the opportunity to attend the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, to learn more about lime mortar and practical applications in masonry repair.
