This course is suitable for:

  • individuals who are currently in employment within the Health & Social Care sector and wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • employees within the Health & Social Care sector who want to develop their careers

What's Involved

The NPA in Health and Social Care: Skills for Practice at SCQF level 6 introduces learners to techniques that are important in the Health and Social Care sector. Areas covered include a person centred approach to care, safe practice in care and practical caring skills. The NPA is linked to National Occupational Standards.

The SVQ 2 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 6 allows learners to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work. SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards.

The course will enable candidates to integrate knowledge, theory and practice effectively in the context of current Legislation & Policy including SSSC Code of Practice and National Care Standards Candidates wishing to undertake this course should be able to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. They should be able to use these skills to give an account of their experiences, reflect on them and make valid conclusions.

On completion of the course progression opportunities include:

  • an SVQ level 3 in the Social Services and Healthcare sector
  • an HNC in Social Services (evening and full time options available)
  • Employment - The progression route with individual employers will depend on the candidate’s job role and level of responsibility
