Ayrshire College hosts a Barber Bash!
Ayrshire was treated to a showcase barbering event on Tuesday 9 October, as the Great British Barber Bash team came to Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus.
The Great British Barber Bash was established five years ago to educate people on modern barbering. A team of barbers - who are popular across social media - perform all around the world, and this week was their first visit to Ayrshire following recent events in Belfast, Amsterdam and Dubai.
The show was open to members of the public, with many of the College’s barbering and hairdressing students quickly snapping up tickets.
In total the audience were treated to a presentation of six haircuts showing on-trend work.
Garry Spencer, Event Co-ordinator at the Great British Barber Bash, said “We try to keep our events upbeat and look for as much audience participation as we can get.
“The three barbers are prolific on Instagram and run busy shops, and they talk about any aspect of the industry. So as well as taking questions on the haircuts, we had questions on the business side of things and marketing.
“We have a massive following in Scotland. The reason for that is that when we started the Barber Bash, a lot of shows didn’t go around the UK. They’d do London and Manchester and basically stop there. What we’ve found to be really successful is we go anywhere. The second show we ever did was in Elgin, and we were back there last week. This is our first time in Ayrshire and I’m sure we’ll be back.”
The Great British Barber Bash team held a CPD session with Ayrshire College’s hairdressing and barbering lecturers before the show.
Angela Sheridan, Head of Learning and Skills for Hair, Beauty, Complementary Therapies and Make-up Artistry, said “It was really exciting for us to host a Great British Barber event at our Kilmarnock Campus. Barbering is a growth industry, and in response we have recently added SVQ 2 and 3 Barbering to our portfolio of courses and are planning to run an evening class shortly.
“Bringing the outside industry in is vital to students and staff development. Our employers who attended have also fedback that they were grateful for the college hosting the event, as it allowed them to gain CPD for their staff too. The buzz and inspiration this has created in our students is wonderful.”
