Ayrshire College students earn international computing certificates
Computing students at Ayrshire College have successfully completed Oracle's Database Design and Programming with SQL course.
Oracle Academy's Senior Manager for Curriculum Development and Member Education, Willie McCabe, presented the latest cohort of Oracle Academy graduates with their certificates at the Kilwinning Campus on Tuesday 12 June.
The college students had the Oracle course embedded in their HNC and HND Computing courses.
Oracle Academy works with colleges and universities to develop students’ skills and knowledge in certain areas of computer science.
Hannah Louise McCartney, 19-year-old HNC Computing Science student from Cumnock, said “I’ve wanted to do computing ever since I got my first laptop. I want to do cyber security and networks and I’ll be going onto study that at university.
“We had a big workload to do every week to get this Oracle certificate, but it was really enjoyable. We were programming databases, so instead of making a simple database in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, we had to code every aspect of it. I learnt a lot from it.”
Rhys Wilson, 20 from Troon, said “I enjoyed doing the course. It helped me learn a lot about database design but also about Oracle, and it’s good to get this qualification. Hopefully it will help me gain a job related to working with databases.”
