Primary 7s enjoy taster morning at Ayrshire College
Ayrshire College recently welcomed Primary 7 pupils from Forehill Primary School to the Ayr Campus, for a taster morning.
Over 60 pupils visited the College facility for three half-hour workshops on 23 March 2018.
Pupils chose from a range of workshops including Hair and Beauty, Computing, Construction, Technology, and Science.
The workshops were run by Ayrshire College students along with the class lecturer, to give pupils the opportunity to chat to current students about their course and watch student-led demonstrations.
The sessions gave pupils an insight into what attending College is like and the kinds of practical activities involved in some of the courses.
Julie-Ann Baines, Principal Teacher of Primary 7, said “I cannot begin to explain how much the pupils and staff enjoyed this experience. The pupils were so excited and keen to share their experiences on returning to school.
An important message which came through when I spoke to the pupils about the visit, was the importance of having this opportunity now and not waiting until later on in secondary school.”
Patricia Murray, Ayrshire College - School-College Partnership Officer, added “Primary 7s are at that age where they are beginning to think about what they might like to do when they leave school. Having input from the College at this stage can help enforce a positive view of further and higher education, and potentially impact their future career routes.”
