Beauty Students win gold at national awards

Ayrshire College Hairdressing and Make-Up Artistry students from the Kilwinning Campus are celebrating after scooping three first place awards at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) National Finals held recently in the famous Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

Competing against colleges from all over the UK, the student competitions are held annually at a regional and national level.

The winning students all received gold in the following individual categories:

Body Paint – Level 6 Make-Up Artistry student Dionne Strachan who decorated 50% of a body with a nursery rhymes theme.

Face Paint - Level 6 Make-Up Artistry student Amanda Malcolm who worked on a horror theme.

Total Look – this involved a team of hairdressing and make-up artistry students, Paisley Gallacher, Cecelia Yatmaz, Sharlene Atkinson, Melanie McDonald, Helen Frew and Kerriann Hillis. The theme for this competition was musicals and the team chose ‘Beetlejuice’.

Lecturer Carrie Donnelly said “all of the students were fantastic. They worked so hard to perfect their designs and it has paid off. I am so very proud of them and they really do deserve the gold medals.”
