GTCS awards Ayrshire College professional update validation

Ayrshire College has received validation of its professional learning policy and guidance by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

The College’s Staff Learning and Development Policy and the Personal and Professional Development and Review (PPDR) process were both developed and launched during the 2014–15 academic session.

The GTCS panel commented on the quality of professional learning undertaken in the college by staff as well as the quality of college provided professional learning programmes which were carefully planned to meet the learning and development needs of all staff.

Regular ‘Teach Meets’ are held and led by staff, allowing for shared learning and teaching among colleagues, with a focus on impact. Digital skills are also a key element of the PPDR offerings, with support across 50 different workshops. A digital mapping of skills exercise was also completed by all staff members, to help support further development. A key strength was the commitment from College leaders to develop coaching approaches to support the PRD process.

GTCS Senior Education Officer Vikki Robertson said: “Ayrshire College has shown great commitment to developing a comprehensive professional development policy and guidance for staff to support a wide range of professional learning and development activities.

"The panel was particularly impressed with the strong sense of vision and commitment to enhance professional learning at Ayrshire College and the importance placed on the Professional standards for College Lecturers in this process. GTCS is pleased to validate the college’s policy and award the GTCS quality mark for Professional Update.”

Ayrshire College Staff Learning and Development Manager, Mhairi Boyd said: “We at Ayrshire College are delighted to have received this validation from the General Teaching Council for Scotland. It is very encouraging that our professional learning policies and practices have been recognised and awarded this great quality mark.”
