Scottish Apprenticeship Week Event

Scottish Apprenticeship Week Event

Ayrshire College hosts Modern Apprenticeship event on the 7 March 2019 at the Ayr Campus.

As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2019, the College held an event for students to be inspired and learn more about Modern Apprenticeship opportunities in Ayrshire.

Local Companies Spirit Aerosystems, Ryanair, Chevron, and Collins Aerospace set up stands in the Partnership Centre to talk to students about the Modern Apprenticeship programmes they are currently recruiting for. They offered advice and guidance about how to apply for their apprenticeships, what skills and qualifications they would like candidates to have, and the possible progression routes through the programmes in their companies.

The College’s NC, HNC, HND and PEO (Performing Engineering Operations) engineering classes visited the employers in class groups throughout the afternoon, as well as some interested school pupils and general public.

Stuart Cree, Apprenticeships Manager at Ayrshire College said about the event “Scottish Apprenticeship week is about promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and the value they bring to local businesses and the economy. We recognise apprenticeships as a vital role in creating a skilled future workforce.

It is important that we show our students and the general public what opportunities are out there in Ayrshire. This is a pathway for young people that offers not only a monthly income but on the job training that is preparing them with the skills and qualifications they need to work in the industry.”

In Ayrshire there is a wide range of Modern Apprenticeships, not just in engineering, but in hair and beauty, early years, business, finance, IT, digital and more.
