Travel and Tourism students take off at College conference

Ayrshire College’s Travel and Tourism students recently hosted a ‘Passport to Business, IT, Travel and Tourism Conference’, raising the profile of the College as a leading provider of tourism education and training.

The event, hosted by HNC Travel and Tourism students, was an integral part of the course, and a fantastic opportunity to showcase tourism in Ayrshire, Scotland and beyond.

Students and invited guests attending the conference at the Ayr Campus, enjoyed an airport themed day which provided information on the various aspects of the tourism industry, including Business, Information Technology as well as Travel and Tourism as a first choice career.

The students were delighted to secure some excellent guest speakers from the business world including East Ayrshire Council, the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce, Stewart Travel, Whereverly Travel Apps, VisitScotland, the Scottish Tourism Alliance and Ayrshire College.

Tourism student and chairperson for the event, Linda Joyce said “who would have thought this time last year where I would have travelled to academically, it’s just amazing. Our lecturer Luisa Vannucci, has challenged, motivated and inspired us to believe that anything is possible and that the world is our oyster”.

Lecturer Luisa Vannucci said “I am very proud of the students. To plan, organise and carry out such a complex event can be very daunting. It has been extremely rewarding to have had the opportunity to see them grow their skills and develop their confidence. I look forward to seeing where their careers take them.”

Curriculum Manager Sally Kennedy said "the conference was a triumph for the HNC Travel and Tourism group. The organisation and set up was superb. The speakers were thought- provoking and interesting on a variety of topics. Congratulations to all involved."
