Ayrshire College is the perfect platform for events

Ayrshire College recently expanded its marketing team with the creation of a Marketing and Events internship position, demonstrating its commitment to developing our young workforce.

Events are integral to the success of the marketing team at the College, and 23 year-old intern Ada Konkolska is on a six-month internship to help to build on this success.

Ada said “I graduated in Events Management in June and was looking for an events position to get my career started. While I’ve worked on a lot of my own projects, I have never worked in the public sector before, and it’s been nice to try out a different perspective.

“As soon as I started I helped organise the graduation ceremonies straight away. That was fun to work on as I’d just participated in my own a few months before, so it was nice to see it from the other side!

“I’ve also had the chance to work on my own project, the College’s ‘Respect’ campaign which encouraged students and staff at Ayrshire College to respect each other, themselves, their environment and their community.

“That was something that I was mainly responsible for myself, so it was quite good to get that responsibility at the beginning. The most recent event I supported was the official opening of the new Kilmarnock Campus in December, which was opened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.”

Ada still has a few months left at the College, and is in no hurry for her internship to finish.

She said “I know when this finishes I want to follow it up with another events position. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Ayrshire College so far, and would be keen to continue down this path and develop my skills more.”

John Govan, Head of Hospitality and Tourism said “There is nothing more rewarding than the end result of working in events - seeing people enjoying themselves, making connections and sharing an experience.

“The Access to HNC Events course would suit anyone considering careers like function co-ordinators, wedding planners and event planners in hotels, tourism venues, and a wide range of events locations. It is an industry that is challenging, exciting and fun!”
