Ayrshire Connects with female STEM students over cheese and wine

An Ayrshire College networking group for female STEM and construction students held its latest event in Ayr on Tuesday 24 October.

Ayrshire Connects’ ‘Cheese. Wine. Chatter’ night brought together female students, staff members and representatives from external organisations to the College’s Ayr Campus to hear from two inspirational women.

Michelle Lennon, Global Strategy Execution Manager for MERCK, and Lisa Little, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer at Ayrshire College, spoke about their journeys from studying at Ayrshire College in the ‘90s, to where they are now.

The night was the latest in a series of events held in order to give women studying towards a STEM career the opportunity to network with their peers and women already in their industry.

Michelle said “While my education in science has given me an extremely stable and secure career, having lots of fun developing new drug products, it has also opened many opportunities outside of the traditional laboratory jobs. I now have a global role within a leading Life Science company looking after customer global projects.

“I am lucky to travel the world meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, while getting creative with our manufacturing site, all at the same time."

The event took place within the brand new Ayrshire College restaurant, Inver. The restaurant is situated in the Dam Park building at the Ayr Campus and is now open to public bookings.
