College students collaborate with Cherry Soda Jewellery

Fashion students at Ayrshire College teamed up with Cherry Soda Jewellery again this year tasked with another upcycling design challenge.

Using donated broken jewellery; shoes and handbags were used as a base for remarkable transformations. The competition winners were decided by Cherry Soda’s Facebook followers.

HND Fashion Design and Production with Retail student Graeme Bone won the competition and the prize of a £50 voucher, Sam McRoberts Level 6 was the runner up with £25, and Georgia Haygreen another HND Fashion student was awarded £15.

Approached by Ayrshire Cancer Support to install Christmas windows and raise awareness of their new re-cycling initiative, both projects were combined to increased exposure of the design competition and create a Visual Merchandise story of be-jewelling shoes across both windows.

In addition to this Ayrshire College’s Fashion department supported an upcycling demonstration and styling event to entice and educate the general public of the benefits in purchasing second-hand items. The collaborative impact of all projects encouraged customers into the Ayrshire Cancer Support store in Ayr and supported increased profits for this local charity.

If you are interested in fashion and want to learn how to produce such spectacular designs, why not start Ayrshire College's Access to Fashion course this January?

The heavily practical course gives students an introduction to garment design and production, letting students make their own patterns and sew basic garments.
