Sound Production students inspired by industry

Introduction to Sound Production students at Kilwinning Campus were joined by well-known presenter Alan Shaw from West FM for a Question and Answer session on the radio industry recently.

As part of their ‘Working with Others’ core skills unit, the students arranged the special visit to learn more about the radio and broadcasting industry.

Sharing his 25 year experience in media as a presenter and producer, Alan said “It was fantastic to see the students taking an active interest in media, radio and the technology behind it.

“In an era where it’s easy to set up online broadcasts from home, it’s encouraging that so many recognise the importance of mainstream media – they could be the ones helping to shape it in the years to come!”

Essential Skills Lecturer, Brian Woolfson said “industry input is so valuable – the feedback from the students has been extremely positive. Digital audio editing is part of the course and the students have benefited from hearing about Alan’s inspiring career, putting their studies into context.”

The Sound Production students are to gain further insight into the radio industry with a visit to Heart and Smooth Radio in Glasgow early in January 2018.
