Students put on braw Scottish performance
Ayrshire College students treated invited guests to a fantastic performance of Scottish songs and dances at the Boswell Centre in Auchinleck on Tuesday 30 January.
The students on the Connect to Community course performed crowd favourites such as ‘Loch Lomond’, ‘Caledonia’ and ‘Flower of Scotland’.
Other songs performed by the students were ‘Donald Where's Your Troosers?’ and the Sydney Devine version of ‘Tiny Bubbles’, while the entire event was rounded off by the Circassian Circle dance.
The group also deviated from the Scottish theme slightly in order to treat the audience to the Cha Cha Slide and Macarena dances, and a superb performance of Stealers Wheel’s ‘Stuck in the Middle with You’.
The Scottish event was put on as part of the students’ drama unit of their course. The class decided on the theme and decorated the Boswell Centre in preparation of their big performance. Some students even baked shortbread and other biscuits for their guests. Among the guests was East Ayrshire Council Depute Provost Claire Leitch.
Eileen Munro, Essential Skills lecturer at Ayrshire College, said “It was great to see the students’ hard work in practice result in such a fantastic performance. Every song was greeted with a thunderous round of applause, as the audience could see the amount of effort that was put in by the group to make their Scottish themed event such a success.”
