Position: Chair of the Board of Management

Willie became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland in 2003 and for a period of 11 years was responsible for Clydesdale Bank’s corporate, agricultural and private banking business across Ayrshire and Arran. In 2013, he established Willie Mackie Consulting Limited, providing business consultancy services to a wide range of clients predominantly based in Ayrshire.

Fiona Blain

Position: Elected Staff Member (Service Staff)

Fiona is currently an Apprenticeship Officer in Industry Programmes at Ayrshire College. Fiona’s current role involves working in partnership with some of Ayrshire’s largest and best-known companies to provide the most appropriate and highest quality work based learning available within the sector. Her understanding and appreciation of employer needs have been developed and honed since starting work in the Commercial Activities Department of Ayr College over 20 years ago.

In 2015, Fiona became a UNISON Representative within the College.  Through this position she has developed a thorough understanding and knowledge of the College operations.

Margarette worked for Alex Begg of Ayr for over 20 years as their Retail Sales Manager. This position involved the day to day management of the retail side of the business, continual staff training, event planning, merchandising and promoting locally as well as worldwide.

Steve Graham

Position: Non-Executive Board Member

Steve is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Having spent 10 years in the RAF as an Engineer in support of the Nimrod aircraft, Steve left the Service in 1994. Following a 4-year period working for a large US avionics manufacturer, he joined the National Air Traffic Service (now known as NATS) in 1998. Having served as leader in a number of engineering and computing support roles, Steve was appointed Head of Business Engagement in 2016, a role he continues to fill.

Christopher Hall

Position: Elected Staff Member (Curriculum/Teaching Staff)

Chris is currently a Lecturer in Essential Skills at Ayrshire College. He has also worked across the Education Sector in Scotland in a variety of roles, and in a range of formal and informal settings. He has a strong interest in widening participation and access to Further and Higher Education. Chris has worked in a range of creative learning contexts with partners from the Arts and Local Authorities, including award winning socially engaged theatre company Glas(s) Performance.

Having studied at Ayrshire College for over 3 years, and recently gaining an HNC in Social Sciences, Lauren is very excited to be taking on the role of Student Vice President for the academic year 2019/20.

Gordon has more than 15 years’ experience in purchasing, logistics and supply chain systems in both public and private sectors. A former James Watt College Board Member, he was Supply Chain Manager for a major UK electronics business, overseeing manufacturing, development, outsourcing, warehousing and transportation.

Mary McClung

Mary left school to pursue a four-year athletic scholarship in in the USA and became a professional athlete.  She combined her career with part and full-time studies, culminating in the award of a Masters Degree in Performance Psychology. Mary is currently Director of NLP with Aurora Wellbeing and passionately believes in providing people from all parts of society with the opportunity to maximise their potential through the provision of opportunity, environment and encouragement.

Jack McCrindle

Position: Elected Student Member (Student President)

Jack studied Sound Production at Ayr Campus and, at the end of his 2nd year of studies, nominated himself to become part of the Ayrshire College Student Association (ACSA). After a strong year as Vice President in 2018/19, the students elected him as President of ACSA for 2019/20. Jack is also elected as a member of Scottish Executive Committee 2019/20 in the National Union of Students (NUS), which he is really looking forward to being involved in.

Michael Stewart

Mike is currently Director of Maintenance at Chevron Aircraft Maintenance Ltd based at Prestwick Airport and brings much sought after aviation and aerospace engineering knowledge and skills to the Ayrshire College Board of Management.

Alison Sutherland

Alison graduated with a Masters Degree in English Literature and has been a member of the General Teaching Council since 1999. She took on the role of Depute Head Teacher at Ardrossan Academy, before becoming Head at Dumfries High School and then Head Teacher at Irvine Royal Academy. Whilst in post at Irvine, Alison has become familiar with the work of Ayrshire College as a result of the College’s partnership with North Ayrshire Council (NAC), utilising a vacant wing of Irvine Royal Academy.
