Dr Elaine Anderson has recently retired as an oncologist involved in the management of breast cancer for over 30 years. During her career as a surgeon and a senior manager within the NHS, Elaine also lectured at the University of Edinburgh and was an examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Elaine spent three years from 2014 to 2017 as Associate Medical Director Cancer Services and was responsible for providing clinical and managerial leadership to all cancer services in NHS Lothian. This was in addition to being Clinical Director of the Edinburgh Breast Unit and the South East of Scotland Breast Screening Unit. Elaine was also the Scottish Lead of Breast Screening Quality Performance Indicators/Outcomes for many years.
Having retired from these roles in 2017, Elaine drafted the new Cancer and Managerial Strategy for NHS Lothian. Although Elaine has retired from the above duties, she remains a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member in good standing with the General Medical Council. She is committed to the provision of education as a means to maximising the skills and opportunities available to the general public and young people in particular.
