September 30, 2019 - Jane Moore

I’m totally amazed to have won this award. It’s a tremendous accolade to put on my CV.

My husband and I own a 25 bedroom hotel in Ayr and over the years, I worked with an Architect and Interior Designer at various projects at the hotel. Their work fascinated me and this helped me to make the decision to retrain.

When we sell the hotel in the future, it’ll mean I will have another skill and be able to have a different career.

I was apprehensive about becoming a mature student as it had been many years since I had studied. I also worried that I would be the oldest student in the course, which I was! However, Ayrshire College Ayr Campus is a really warm, friendly place to study and I was soon put at ease.

The lecturing staff are approachable and give 110% to all of their students and nothing is too much trouble.

I have gained many skills from my course, and especially enjoyed working on the Graded Unit. It was a challenge, but with encouragement from the lecturers, I found a real sense of accomplishment.

I did have a fear of new computer programs, I would avoid them! So being presented with AutoCAD and REVIT made me want to run away, but the course made me take it step by step and slowly learn until I wasn’t scared anymore.

Placements benefitted me by providing me with an idea of what the workplace will be like.

I’m totally amazed to have won this award. It’s a tremendous accolade to put on my CV.

I am now studying Architectural Technology at Napier University and I plan to get a placement at an architects practice until I graduate.
