Emma Yuill, HND Acting and Performance

I actually started on a childcare course at college but it wasn’t for me. So, I decided to follow my dream and apply for acting and performance.

I’ve had a passion for acting ever since I was young, but I’ve always had bad anxiety and low self-esteem, and felt like I’ve never really fit in anywhere. That all changed with this course, it’s brought the confidence out in me. It’s crazy how shy I was right at the start. I feel like I’m a completely new person.

I also found out that I was dyslexic but I’ve always received the support I needed.

The thing I enjoyed most about my course was all of the performances we put on. The rehearsal process was such a good experience and we have a lot of fun putting on the shows – two per year.

I feel like all of the hard work that I put in has paid off with this award. I’m so proud of how far I’ve progressed since I started.

I think Ayrshire College was a great place to study. I had the best lecturers and great support and encouragement during my time here. After being here for five years, I was sad to be leaving but excited for my new adventures ahead.

I’m now at the University of the West of Scotland, studying my BA in Performance.
