Ayr Graduation 2019: Student of the Year for Performing Arts, Sound Production and Music

Learning that I had won this award was quite unreal and honestly unbelievable! It will definitely help me as I move on in my career.

I chose to study at Ayrshire College as the general atmosphere of the College was really welcoming. I always had an interest in music, so I opted to start at NC level.

I was apprehensive at first as the idea of meeting new people seemed daunting. However, I’ve met some of my greatest friends since starting college.

The course offered a behind-the-scenes look at the industry, teaching us about the technical side of sound production; how albums are recorded, mixed, and mastered, to how the music industry in the UK operates including the legal aspects.

My favourite part of the course had to be working alongside my fellow students both as a sound engineer behind the mixing desk, and as a musician, being in the live room and understanding the relationship between the musician and the sound engineer much better than before.

I have gained vital technical skills, which have allowed me to carry out sessions in a professional manner, ending up with a finished mixed and mastered product that I am satisfied with.

We also took part in live gigs and recording sessions, which gave me an insight into working in the professional music industry.

I’m now studying at University of the West of Scotland in Paisley, and started in year 3 of a Music Technology degree, as well as developing my own song writing and musical skills.

I think Ayrshire College is a great place to study; the staff are absolutely fantastic, especially the Music and Sound Production lecturers, all of whom were imperative to my success in the course.

While my time at Ayrshire College is over, I had an unforgettable experience attending here. I hope to come back some day and catch up with the lecturers again!
