Diary of an Office Kitchen - Week 8

May 15, 2020 - Holly Elliott

11 May 2020

5.30am David left for work.

8.00am Pluck up the courage to colour my hair and keep fingers crossed for 35 minutes whilst it “activates”.

8.35am Woo hoo! Happy days, hair looks perfectly adequate!

8.45am Make a cheese toastie on wholemeal bread...I’m all about healthy eating after all, with tomato ketchup (the one with less salt and sugar obviously, as I’m so healthy) to celebrate hair triumph.

11.58pm Prepare myself for all the lovely comments about my hair at the team Zoom meeting.

12.30pm Zoom meeting ends. Not one of those people noticed my hair!

12.40pm Have a tequila and Pringles to calm myself. I guess at least they didn’t ask what on earth had I done to my hair.

3.00pm Receive an email from Thermomix to let me know that they are experiencing technical difficulties and they cannot send or receive emails. I ponder this for a while as I obviously received their email informing me that they could not send emails. My email must be magic.

8.30pm David home with items that he won’t let me see.

12 May 2020 Warning – this entry contains sentimentality

7.10am David made me a cup of tea, wished me a happy birthday and left for work.

8.15am Come downstairs to a stack of gifts piled up on the coffee table – all wrapped in Christmas paper.

8.20am Open all my birthday gifts and cards. I feel very lucky and loved.

10.58am Prepare for SLT meeting. Am hopeful that someone from that team may comment on my hair.

11.50am Despite no comments about my hair, the Principal led the team in a wonderful rendition of “Happy Birthday to you” which made up for it.

4.30pm Call from Mum to let me know that once we can see each other again she will treat us all to a night out with Joanna Lumley and Gerard Butler. Fabulous!

2.30pm Delivery from Australia! A bottle of Shiraz Gin from a friend who knows me rather too well. I love that woman!

5.30pm Delivery of flowers from a lovely colleague and friend. What a gorgeous surprise.

7.30pm David home with flowers and champagne and not a cauliflower in sight...it must be my birthday.

7.40pm Pour myself a glass of wine –if you can’t treat yourself on your birthday then when can you.

8.00pm Reflect on the best Tuesday birthday I’ve probably ever had. As a rule, I hate birthdays on a Tuesday but as every day feels like Saturday this one has not been too shabby.

13 May 2020

7.30am David left for work.

8.30am Head in fridge –hungry this morning. Must be my new age.

10.00am Team Zoom meeting. Have given up hope that anyone will notice my hair.

11.40am Head out for dog walk. I notice that the normally quiet drive is a lot busier today. They can’t all be going to the supermarket or B&Q.

1.10pm Perilously low on food. Make a lunch of what I scramble together. A can of tuna, a piece of cheese and some out of date spinach. Not a lunch I will be boasting about on Instagram.

1.20pm Stumble upon an article on the internet on how to achieve dancers legs in 14 days! All it takes to create long and lean legs is a tone, shape and strengthen exercise regime for just five minutes a day. They only want £30 to show me how. What a bargain.

1.30pm Find David’s secret biscuit stash.

3.00pm Catch-up with June and Yvonne for Quizoom on Friday. The catch-up, however, was rather coded as I couldn’t tell them anything as they are participants! They happily played along with me though and offered help. I’m sure they are only after the answers.

4.30pm WhatsApp cousins group are debating on Bon Jovi versus The Rock for president. My votes goes to The Rock.

5.10pm Log off after finding David’s secret chocolate stash! What a day!

8.30pm David home and asks where his biscuits and chocolate have gone.

14 May 2020

7.30am David left for work.

11.00am SLT Zoom meeting. James shows us all a new room in his house for us all to admire. He looks like a borrower lost in a big book, which, oddly enough, I’m slightly envious of.

1.10pm Eat a block of cheese as David’s secret stashes of food has been depleted.

1.15pm Consider putting the oven on for chips...

1.45pm Scoff down chips ready for 2.00pm meeting...

4.30pm Make myself a Moscow Mule, after all the weekend starts now for me!

4.31pm Share diary with SLT. I’m off all day tomorrow on annual leave to prepare for Quizoom...
