Diary of an Office Kitchen - Week 9

May 28, 2020 - Holly Elliott

Friday 15 May 2020 Quizoom Music Edition

4.30pm Final preparation meeting with DJ M Breen for the Senior Leadership Team Quizoom music edition.

4.50pm DJand I agree to wing it as I’ve not put any make-up on and haven’t even poured a drink! Panic!!

4.59pm Log on to Quizoom to find almost everyone has joined the quiz. Everyone says how good my hair looks. Too late people, too late!

5.00pm Quizoom commences. Slight technical hitch as I can’t share my screen. Great start. I knew I should have had a drink earlier!

5.05pm James joins Quizoom just as everyone else logs off as I try to sort out the technical hitch! Text James to reassure him he is invited...I think.

5.08pm We are all back in! Drinks are displayed, photos or items from childhood are presented and gloves are waved. James seems pleased to have been allowed in.

5.40pm After four rounds of theme tunes and movie sound tracks from the 1980’s, that most people struggled to hear, we have a winner! Yvonne is crowned Music Edition Champion, despite only being born in the 80’s, but she probably has better hearing than most of SLT....

Monday 18 May 2020

6.30am David left for work.

8.45am Prepare myself mentally for supporting both curriculum and service teams in June’s absence. She picked a good week to have off...papers for various meetings and committees are due out this week, and several meetings need minuting. It’s almost like she picked this week on purpose...

11.00am Meet a wonderful woman on our walk who called Maisy and George the “Woolly Wonders”. There’s a lot of alliteration in that sentence. I like the Woolly Wonders though – that might stick!

12.30pm Google “lose weight fast.” A very slim smug person explains how easy they found losing weight. It involves a rather complicated eating plan. You eventually only eat green leafy veg and a handful of nuts with water four days a week. Apparently, they were 95kg and now only weigh 68kg and it only took six weeks! Life is marvellous and they don’t miss sugar or alcohol at all. Liar.

12.50pm Close laptop lid and eat a doughnut.

4.30pm Call from Mum as Elton John is just off the phone. He has had to cancel Bernie Taupin’s surprise birthday bash, which was planned for Thursday. She’s gutted.

10.15pm David home from work.

Tuesday 19 May 2020

7.10am David left for work.

8.30am Up and out early for the Woolly Wonders Walk.

8.31am Car won’t start.

8.40am Get the car started and see one magpie about four times on route to Auchincruive, and it’s raining. Great start to the day.

10.00am SLT Zoom meeting with two new faces! Lovely to see Angela and Aimee join the meeting. The Principal points out Aimee probably makes more sense than the rest of us put together. She has a point.

11.45am Attend a virtual funeral for my Aunt who sadly passed away from a short illness a few weeks ago. Text from my sister to check I’m logged on to the service, and asks if everyone can hear her, as her gardeners are making an awful racket. I could have lied but felt today wasn’t the time...

2.15pm Put Father Brown on the TV –just in the background for a bit of company. Get sucked in.

3.00pm Where did that 45 minutes go?

3.01pm Oooo goodie –Escape to the Country. 3.45pm Where did that 45 minutes go?

3.46pm Turn the TV off before I am tricked into more daytime TV! I’ve got work to do!

8.00pm David home with an Easter egg. They still had a few left in the office. Result!

Wednesday 20 May 2020

7.05am David left for work.

7.45am Eat the Easter egg.

8.30am Realise I’m starting to miss people I don’t even like.

10.45am Score 21 points in Pop Master on both rounds.

1.30pm Call from my sister who’s excited as she can play golf and tennis again. She also contacted her cleaner who is able to go back to work. She is so delighted that the country (England I hasten to add) is getting back to normal! Not sure, her normal is the same as the rest of us but am pleased for her none-the-less.

2.15pm Argue with myself about putting Father Brown on, just in the background.

3.00pm Where did that 45 minutes go?

3.01pm Turn TV off. Escape to the Country is on...I’m on a slippery slope.

9.00pm David home from work with milk. Milk??

Thursday 21 May 2020

7.10am David left for work.

10.00am First meeting of the day. It was a busy one as I had floor tiles, a new cookery book and a parcel from M&S all delivered during the meeting!

12.32pm Second meeting of the day. Anne popped in at the end to say hello as we were all saying goodbye.

12.45pm Grab lunch before next meeting, which consists of a packet of crisps and the rest of the Easter egg.

1.00pm Third meeting of the day commences.

1.30pm Text Michael to ask him to mute his mic. It sounds like someone in his kitchen is bashing saucepans...they are a bit early. That’s at 8pm on a Thursday.

3.00pm Read the Scottish Government’sCOVID-19route map publication. I can’t find the route map on phases for losing weight, getting sober and avoiding daytime TV.

8.45pm David home with engine oil. Sigh.

Friday 22 May 2020

7.10am David left for work and made me a cup of tea. Nice start to the day.

9.00am Dozed off and just woke up. I might be late for work.

10.18am Send Jane a proud picture of Rodders who has had another baby! I’m getting the hang of this indoor plant malarkey!

12.30pm Just back from a wild and windy Woolly Wonders walk.

1.00pm Email from dog groomer to say she can see the Woolly Wonders over the weekend. To say I could cry is an understatement. This is the best news I’ve had since David bought home the Easter egg on Tuesday.

3.15pm Reflect on the week. Have been very productive, really busy and have hardly eaten or drunk! Well not in office hours anyway.

3.20pm Pour a glass of wine to congratulate myself.
