Working in hairdressing is both exciting and challenging. It’s part of a diverse and ever evolving industry which is continuously launching new products and techniques. Hairdressing professionals are at the heart of this, helping to create and maintain current trends. To be successful in this profession you’ll need to be passionate, creative, committed and hardworking. You’ll also need to be self-motivated, a good team player and enjoy working with people. For entry to this course you’ll need: A Hairdressing qualification at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent. An ongoing interest in hairdressing. To submit an application, completing all sections, including Personal Statement in full. NB we may notify you of the outcome by letter and/or invite you to attend an interview. To be aged 16 or over. Please note, if you don’t have a Level 6 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent, and an ongoing interest in hairdressing, we will not consider you for entry.

What's Involved

By now you’ll have a good level of skills and creativity, but this course will take things even further, as you develop into an independent, confident stylist. Demonstrating artistic flair and in depth technical knowledge, you’ll build on your speed and dexterity as you prepare to go into industry. Providing relevant, realistic experience, you’ll continue to work in our commercial salons on campus, while also going on work experience one day a week to a local salon. Here’s just some of what you may study: You’ll learn to fully engage with clients to meet their expectations, presenting ideas and encouraging them to express their wishes and concerns. You’ll learn to use a combination of techniques and advanced cutting skills to create a personalised and individual restyled look. You’ll learn to combine, adapt and personalise a range of techniques to achieve different effects You’ll develop advanced skills to correct more complex colouring problems, including removing artificial colour, recolouring, and correcting high/lowlights. You’ll come up with innovative, fashionable, creative and personalised looks, involving accessories or added hair pieces. You’ll also have the chance to take part in competitions such as: World Skills Competitions, Association of Hairdressers & Therapists Annual Competition (AHT) Bridal Competitions.
