- A real desire to work in the Police force
- At least two highers or have passed a suitable level 6 course for example NC
- Uniformed Services
- Ideally you will be involved in working in your community

The Police Studies HNC has been developed in conjunction with Police Scotland to give applicants the best possible chance of getting into the Police force. The aim of this course is provide candidates with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which will support them in making an application to Police Scotland .
The knowledge, skills and attitudes developed through this course can be applied in a range of other occupations should candidates decide not to pursue a career in the Police Service. The course will therefore be suitable for people who:
- Have not yet achieved the required level for the standard entrance tests
- Do not yet meet the minimum age requirements
- Do not yet have the experience of society or the underpinning knowledge/skills required
What's Involved
This course gives you an introduction into the Police force and spend time teaching you the desirable skills required to gain employment in the Police force. You’ll spend time developing social and team working skills.
All of the areas of study are designed to assist you in getting employed within the police force. Some of the units studied will involve examining criminology, evaluating the Scottish legal system, developing your individual fitness, improving your team working skills and getting a high quality work placement.
You’ll also have the chance to provide support to your local community with developmental work that will involve you working with others.

On gaining the qualification applicants would be better placed to apply to Police Scotland, but also applicants would be eligible to apply to a range of related courses at university. As the HNC has no HND to progress to the students would not be able to continue their studies at HND level.
On completing the HNC students would be able to access following local universities.
