What's Involved

This course provides a valuable introduction to counselling if you have considered it for employment or voluntary work. It may also be of particular interest to those working in a capacity where enhanced listening skills would develop their practice.

Previous participants in this class have come from people with an interest in taking on a new challenge as well as those working in healthcare, education, social care, and human resources.

You will be introduced to the purpose and basic concepts and processes of counselling including reflective practice. This is an introductory counselling skills course that provides basic knowledge and skills practise.

On successful completion of the course, you will be able to understand the aims and purpose of counselling; describe the counselling process; use basic counselling skills developed through practise sessions with peers; and review and evaluate your own counselling skills.

The course is a good preparation for the more advanced Counselling Theory for Practice evening class from which some learners will progress onto HNC level Counselling Courses.

This course is eligible for Individual Training Account (ITA) and Fee Waiver, depending on individual circumstances. For further information on funding go to our Funding and Fees tab to the right.
