Biology OR Chemistry OR Physics at Nat4 or above, OR relevant previous experience of Science

What's involved

This highly practical course at level 5 will give the participants an insight into wide range of scientific disciplines, such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will learn about the health and safety procedures, how to behave in the laboratory setting and carry out the experiments safely.

At the same time, you will learn a wide range of scientific techniques such as pipetting, gel electrophoresis, using a microscope, cell culture techniques, spectroscopy, and more.

The unit will be assessed through completion of practical exercises and laboratory experiments, as well as maintenance of a technical lab diary, submission of lab proformas and scientific reports.

This course is intended as an introduction to Science and will provide you with the knowledge that could help you on your journey to becoming a scientist. The successful completion of this course would allow you to progress onto SCQF level 6 course in Applied Science with Forensics at the Ayrshire College or to seek relevant employment in scientific and food industries.
