If you’ve just left school, are a Christmas leaver or have been unemployed for a short period of time, the HIVE at Ayrshire College could be ideal for you. At HIVE (Hope, Inspiration and Vision in Education), we understand school does not suit everyone. We promise you’ll find college life quite different. What’s important now is you do something positive and move forward with your life. On the 24/7 course we’ll give you plenty of support so you can think about what you want to do, and develop the skills and confidence you need to get there.

For entry to 24/7, all you need is:

  • To turn 16 before 28 February
  • To be eligible to leave school at Christmas
  • To be released from your Educational Authority eg North/South/East Ayrshire Council.

There’s no interview, you just come in for a chat so we can tell you a bit more about it.

What's Involved

With 24/7, you’ll come into college 3 days a week. The great thing about 24/7 is everything you do on it is useful and relevant to your life. You’ll also be treated as an individual, supported and listened to every step of the way.

Here’s a bit more on what you’ll be doing:

  • Learner Journey - as you settle into college life, you’ll find out about all the services on offer to help you, and the next steps you can take.
  • Citizenship – you’ll discover how we can all make a difference to our community.
  • Health and Wellbeing - you’ll learn how to improve your health, be positive and gain confidence in yourself.
  • Creative - you’ll try different forms of art. It could be creating a poster, painting, modelling or whatever – you choose.
  • Relationships - you’ll look at how to make and keep healthy relationships.
  • Outdoor Learning - you’ll go out into the local community and help on projects which make a real difference to people.
  • You’ll build transferable Essential Skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving.

You’ll also get the chance to enjoy FREE visits and trips which are linked to the themes above. This could be the Glasgow Science Centre, Riverside (Transport) Museum, a panto or other show, park or somewhere else.

Remember, with everything you do in 24/7, it will be helping you develop positive habits and skills to get on with your life – from good time-keeping (you need to be here for 9am!) to great teamwork.

Go Anywhere

Once you’ve successfully completed 24/7, there’s loads more you can do:

You can stay on at college and do another course in the HIVE, such as:

  • 24/7 Plus
  • PEZ
  • PEZ Plus
  • Step into Youth Work/Employability
  • Prince's Trust
  • From here you might move onto a Level 4/5 course in just about anything.
  • You can look for a job, apprenticeship, place with other training providers or volunteering opportunities.
