If you’ve got a real passion for food and drink, are dedicated to customer service and want to manage a hospitality business, you could find yourself very much in demand in the hospitality industry – and this course will help get you there.
For entry to this course, you’ll need to have:
A real interest in working in the hospitality industry
At least 1 relevant Higher at grade C or above OR a pass in a relevant course at SCQF Level 6

This course will give you a wide variety of skills to help you start your career in this exciting industry, including:
Cooking - although you’re not training to be a chef, it’s important you understand the workings of a commercial kitchen, so you’ll do a bit of hands on cookery.
Service - you’ll learn about food and beverage service, so you can understand how a restaurant runs smoothly.
Product knowledge - you’ll gain in depth knowledge about food and drink products including beer, wine, whisky and spirits, which you can share with your customers.
Accommodation - you’ll learn about the rooming side of the industry, including styles and standards.
Human Resource Management - you’ll gain skills for recruiting and managing staff, and look at Continuous Professional Development.
Supervision - you’ll supervise a task, team or event, and take part in a training exercise to train other people.
Industry knowledge - you’ll find out about the industry as a whole and what you need to know to work successfully in it.
Finance and management - you’ll learn about costings and financial control, which will also help you plan for function and events.
You’ll also have the chance to:
Participate in real functions such as business events or bespoke dinners.
Visit distilleries or hotels such as Trump Turnberry, Lochgreen House or the Hilton Glasgow.
Join in Masterclasses from local industry professionals.
Hear top tips on how to get ahead in hospitality from leading employers, successful venue owners and industry suppliers.
Take part in competitions such as inter-campus competitions or the national Student Team Challenge.
