If you’ve got the determination to succeed and do something with your life, but don’t have formal qualifications, PEZ (Personal Empowerment Zone) can help you achieve your goals. PEZ is part of HIVE (Hope, Inspiration and Vision in Education), and gives you the chance to develop your essential skills, motivation and self-confidence in a way that interests you, so you’re ready to move on.

You’ll learn about a wide range of issues so you can take an active role in society. You’ll achieve a recognised Level 4 qualification in a highly supportive environment, to set you up for the next stage in your life.

For entry to PEZ, there’s no interview, you just come in for a chat so we can tell you a bit more about it. You might have already completed 24/7 or 24/7 Plus. But don’t worry if you’ve not, you can just start your future from here.

What's Involved

With PEZ, you’ll come into college 3 days a week, but sometimes you’ll learn at outside locations. So instead of being in the classroom, you might find yourself behind the scenes at McDonalds or Costa.

Here’s just some of what you’ll be doing:

  • Our Environment - you’ll go on research trips around your local area and community.
  • Health and Wellbeing - you’ll enjoy some lively discussions on how to keep yourself safe from different types of risk, and live a healthy lifestyle.
  • Working with Others - you’ll learn how to work successfully in a team and work together on a team task.
  • Basic IT and Communication skills - you’ll learn how to use laptops and phones for research, and develop your written skills for your work book.
  • Life Skills - you’ll learn what you need to know, not only to survive, but to succeed.
  • Creative Project - you’ll work in a team or on your own to create a visual piece of work, such as a poster, painting or model, you choose.
  • Mapping the Student Learning Journey - you’ll look at what you’ve achieved so far, what’s next and how you’ll get there.
  • World of Work - we’ll help you create a CV and covering letter for future job applications.
  • You’ll build transferable Essential Skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving.

Remember, with everything you do in PEZ, it will be helping you prepare for a positive future.

Go Anywhere

Once you’ve successfully completed PEZ, you can choose to:

Stay on at college and do another course in the HIVE, such as:

  • PEZ Plus
  • Prince's Trust
  • Step into Youth Work/Employability
  • From here you might move onto a Level 4/5 course in just about anything.
  • Look for a job, apprenticeship, place with other training providers or volunteering opportunities.
