PEZ Plus (January)
Comparable to Level 4
Short Full time, 18 weeks
Most students on this course will have already completed PEZ, but it might be possible for you to start straight here – as long as you’re aged between 16 - 24, and have the determination to succeed and do something with your life.
PEZ Plus is part of HIVE (Hope, Inspiration and Vision in Education), and gives you the chance to develop your essential skills, motivation and self-confidence in a way that interests you, so you’re ready to move on.
You’ll have the chance to think about your future career in a highly supportive environment and achieve a recognised Level 4 qualification, to set you up for the next stage in your life.
For entry to PEZ Plus, there’s no interview, you just come in for a chat so we can tell you a bit more about it.
With PEZ Plus you’ll come into college 3 days a week, but sometimes you’ll learn at outside locations too. The main focus is getting to know the workplace, discovering the opportunities out there for you, and what you need to do to get there.
Here’s just some of what you’ll be doing:
You'll look at various types of jobs in different settings such as hospitals, schools, nurseries, gyms, hotels and care homes. You’ll find out about the skills you need for each, the expected pay, how to go about applying, getting an interview and moving into a job.
You'll look at different areas of possible future employment to find out what interests you most, such as:
- Health, Social Care and Early Years Education
- Sports and Social Science
- Hair, Beauty, Make-Up Artistry and Complementary Therapies
- Art, Fashion, Music, Sound Production, Media, Photography and Performing Arts
- Hospitality and Touris
- Business and Computing
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) which includes Construction, Trades, Motor Vehicles and Horticulture.
You'll go on FREE visits and trips related to these areas, such as McDonalds, Riverside (Transport) Museum, Glasgow Science Centre, etc.
You’ll build transferable Essential Skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving.
Once you’ve successfully completed PEZ Plus, you can choose to:
Stay on at college and do another course in the HIVE, such as:
- Prince's Trust
- Step into Employment/Youth Work
From here you might move onto a Level 4/5 course in just about anything.
Look for a job, apprenticeship, place with other training providers or volunteering opportunities.
