WHO IS THE COURSE FOR

When you think about your future what do you imagine?

Do you see yourself working with technology? Computers? Hardware and systems?

This 2-year Foundation Apprenticeship – Hardware and System Support course is specifically for school pupils who are interested in the more physical side of computing, have a desire to figure out how things work and want to learn more about computing hardware.

WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT

Do you see yourself working with technology? Computers? Hardware and systems?

This course is designed for people like you who are interested in the more physical side of computing, have a desire to figure out how things work and want to learn more about computing hardware.

The Foundation Apprenticeship is designed to prepare you for employment in an IT/Computing-related post at technician or professional level by developing your knowledge and skills in key areas such as, computer networks, network hardware, operating system security, network security, server installations and server performance and maintenance.

WHAT DO I NEED

You should have or be working towards National 5 qualifications during S5, preferably including Computing. Your guidance teacher should also think you are capable of working at SCQF Level 6, the same level as a Higher qualification.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED

The National Progression Award Units in year 1 are assessed in College and will cover your knowledge and understanding of the Unit content. The year 2 Units will be assessed in the work placement. These assessments are practical – you will carry out tasks and your assessor will observe you and say when you have shown that you can carry them out correctly. You will also keep a logbook. Your Assessor will visit you regularly to make sure that you are doing well and on track with your tasks.

NEXT STEPS

Once you have completed the Foundation Apprenticeship in Hardware and Systems Support, you will have a solid basis for progression to a Modern Apprenticeship in IT and Telecommunications (SCQF Level 6), or an HNC/HND college course in computing. There is also the possibility of exploring options for a related Graduate Level Apprenticeship in ICT/Digital.
