The National 6 Module Counselling Theory for practice is desirable. However anyone who has an interest in learning counselling skills, and who has an opportunity to practice the skills learned on the course, can apply for a place on the COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate.

What's involved

This course:

  • Provides a COSCA certificated training programme in counselling skills.
  • The programmes is made up of 4 modules and covers skills, knowledge, self-awareness and ethics.
  • Uses experiential learning e.g. students practise skills in groups of three
  • Is mainly designed for people in helping or caring professions
  • Helps the individuals who complete it to develop and apply counselling skills to non-counselling settings
  • Gives a professionally recognised qualification in counselling skills

This course allows learners to develop knowledge and both generic and vocational employability skills which will help them use counselling skills when working with young people, families and any individuals affected by mental health issues. It has been designed to help learners develop an understanding of the nature of work in the counselling sector and/or progress to employment in the sector.

The course also aims to attract to professionals in Health, Social Care and Educational Services as a CPD opportunity.

The COSCA certificate will enhance career progression.

It will facilitate progression to higher level study or enable candidates to progress to work based qualifications. The COSCA certificate will also promote academic pathways for and within a range of health and social care settings.

It will develop transferable skills to the levels demanded by employers and for progression to HNC/HND Counselling Courses or COSCA’s Counselling Supervision Skills Certificate.

Applicants may choose to enrol for individual modules at £245.00 per module.
