For entry to this course you’ll need:
- A real interest in computing.
- Four National 5s (including Computing Science or Maths) OR an NQ at Level 5 in a computing related area.
- An interview with us.

This course will develop your skills in hardware, technical support, cyber security, programming, applications development (games, software, websites), digital media and IT applications such as databases.
You’ll learn what is involved in successfully upgrading and configuring a computer system, allowing safe and secure access across an organisational network. You will develop an understanding of the technical terms used in computing that will allow you to converse with suppliers and employers.
You will explore current practice in corporate data security, and learn techniques for the development of a security strategy for a small business.
You will develop your programming and computational thinking skills by designing, implementing, testing and evaluating practical solutions. You will primarily focus on the Python programming language but will also be exposed other languages such as C#.
You’ll learn how to plan, design and develop a small website using HTML and CSS.
You’ll explore the techniques and concepts involved in producing digital media such as animation software.
You will continually develop your IT skills throughout the course in areas such as word processing and database development.
The knowledge and skills in Level 6 Communication and Maths for Computer Games will help to furnish you with the generic skills you need to progress to Computing at HNC level and also future employment.
When you successfully complete this course, you’ll have the choice of:
- Moving onto HNC Computing Science, HNC Cyber Security, HNC Games Development or HNC Technical Support & Networking.
- Seeking to start your career with a Modern Apprenticeship in the area of computing
