Aidan McIntyre, GE Caledonian
Aidan completed his apprenticeship in August 2017. He was the inspiration and main driver within his year group as they won the best presentation award from the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce.
His year group designed and manufactured a Bench for Ayrshire Cancer Support from comprehensive architects’ drawings. The fact that he was able to get all the materials donated from several companies in the area is testament to his communication skills.
During his apprenticeship he gained the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, which he is immensely proud of. Soon after this he was asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for the South Ayrshire Annual Ceremony, three years consecutively.
Aidan then progressed to a role within the Documentation Team presenting an opportunity to further progress his mentoring skills with STEM and GE Caledonian’s Apprentice Team.
His positive can-do attitude gained him his new position of Apprentice Coordinator where he is responsible for mentoring GE Caledonian’s 37 apprentices and is running the 2020 recruitment drive.
He realises the value of being able to mentor people into positive destinations when he did not have any of the support available when attending secondary school. The feedback that Apprentice Leader at GE Caledonian Stephen McNab receives regularly demonstrates the impact that Aidan has had on people when providing them career advice or college course advice.
