Ayrshire College invites women to expand their universe
Girls and women across Ayrshire have been invited to a special networking event during Ayrshire College’s highly anticipated Mission Discovery Week.
Mission Discovery is a week-long space event at the College, delivered by the International Space School Educational Trust (ISSET). An evening event called ‘Expand Your Universe’ takes place on the first night of this space programme, where girls and women can hear inspirational speakers and gain tips for building networks in education and industry.
The main speakers will be leading NASA figure, Sarah Murray, who was responsible for training astronauts how to walk in space, and Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science in the Scottish Government.
The event takes place at the College’s Kilmarnock Campus on Monday 11 June from 5pm to 7:30pm and has been organised by Ayrshire Connects, a network set-up to provide female students in Ayrshire with the opportunity to link with students on other courses, with women in other colleges and universities, and with women in the industries they aspire to work in.
‘Expand Your Universe’ will focus on networking – why build networks and how to do it.
Special guest Sarah Murray will illustrate how women can expand their universe by linking with networks in education and industry. Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP will talk about why Scotland needs women in STEM.
There will be a discussion to finish the event where contributors will offer hints and tips on how to network successfully.
Jackie Galbraith, Vice Principal of Strategy, Planning and Performance at Ayrshire College, said “Making and maintaining connections is important for everyone seeking to build a successful career. Connecting to the right networks is even more critical for women working in male-dominated industries and being able to tap into the experience of someone like Sarah Murray is a fantastic opportunity for our students and other women across Ayrshire.”
