Photography students get great exposure at Scottish Maritime Museum

Photography students at Ayrshire College have launched an exhibition at Irvine’s Scottish Maritime Museum.

The exhibition in the Linthouse Building is called ‘Ship Shapes’ and features photographs taken by HNC Photography students at the Ayr and Kilwinning campuses of the College.

Members of the public were able to view the exhibition and hear from the students at a launch event held on Tuesday 19 February.

Janet Jamieson, Photography lecturer at Ayrshire College, said: “HNC Photography students from our Ayr and Kilwinning campuses collaborated with the Scottish Maritime Museum as part of their Environmental Photography unit. Their brief was to take images that reflected maritime industrial heritage. Many students chose to focus on the detail and textures found in the old machinery and boats which suggested the exhibition title – Ship Shapes.”

Jamie Menzies, Learning and Access Officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “The Scottish Maritime Museum is proud to have collaborated with Ayrshire College on such a fantastic display of photography inspired by our industrial collection. We are grateful to our partners at Historic Environment Scotland for their collaboration and for providing the Industry and Aesthetics exhibition, from which this work was inspired. We wish all students good luck with their future studies.”
