Make-up students apply themselves at regional competition
Ayrshire College students have won three gold, three silver and three bronze medals at the Scotland South regional heat of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) annual competition.
Ayrshire College make-up artistry students won gold and silver medals in the face paint and beginner body paint categories, a gold medal in the advanced body paint category, silver in total look team, and bronze in 1980s make-up, editorial make-up and team bridal.
The students who earned medals at the event – who study at the Ayr and Kilwinning campuses - will now progress to the national finals at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, where they will compete against students from across the UK.
The AHT national finals in Blackpool take place on Monday 16 March. Last year Ayrshire College won three gold medals in the body paint, face paint and total look categories.
Alana Pignatiello, Make-Up Artistry lecturer at Ayrshire College’s Ayr Campus, said: “We are all so proud of the students who took part in the AHT competition. It takes a lot to put yourself forward to compete against your peers.
“All of our students involved were practising constantly beforehand, which is above and beyond the course work they already have. They would come in on days off to practice and perfect their designs. We can’t wait to go to Blackpool and we will be proud of them no matter the results.”
Carrie Donnelly, Make-Up Artistry lecturer at Ayrshire College’s Kilwinning Campus, said: “I could not be prouder of our wonderfully talented and motivated students. So much work goes into each of these looks. Every student who takes part in this competition, whether they get a medal or not, are stars in our eyes. We can’t wait for Blackpool!”
