Screening day for Sound Production students

February 14, 2024 - Martin Currie

Our HND Sound Production students have submitted their biggest piece of sound work this year – and what better way to celebrate than with a day of screenings with plenty of pizza!

It’s become an annual event for the Sound Production team, to take a day to reflect on their achievements and celebrate and critique each other’s work.

The feedback received from their peers is extremely valuable to the students, and a great way to prepare them for industry.

At the hallway stage of his HND course, we spoke to student Nick MacMillan to get his thoughts on how it’s going so far.

Nick said: “I've really enjoyed the opportunity to work on various projects and develop my skills in different areas of sound production/design.

“The piece of work I submitted was some clips from an animated show called Bob's Burgers. I did all the sound design for it including dialogue, foley and music. I wanted to make a Scottish version of the show!

“I believe I received valuable feedback. It was interesting hearing what I did well and what I maybe could've done better. It was a good experience.

“The screening day was a lot of fun. I enjoyed seeing the rest of my classmates’ projects and the free pizza, haha. It was a nice break from all the work and I felt it really brought us together as a class.

“As for my career aspirations, I'm not all that sure at the moment. I thought at first, I wanted to only be a music producer but working through this sound design project was surprisingly a lot of fun and I may dabble more in that side of things in the future. Luckily, the college course gives me many avenues to explore and I'll take advantage of that to assist me in my decision.”
