College celebrates International Women’s Day with inspiring event

Ayrshire College was delighted to mark International Women’s Day by laying on a special lunch-themed Leadership and Legacy for women in senior roles and for the next generation of talented women across Ayrshire.

The event was an occasion designed to celebrate women and the contributions they make to society and the legacy they leave behind to empower the future generation of women.

Fifty women from across the Ayrshire region attended the College’s Westerly Restaurant at Ayr Campus on Friday, March 8 to enjoy a fantastic four-course meal prepared and served by students.

Guests included women from partner organisations of Ayrshire College; Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce, Ayrshire Cancer Support, Ryanair, CenterStage, EGGAR, North, South and East Ayrshire Councils, along with staff members from the College.

Angela Cox, Principal and CEO of Ayrshire College, spoke about women’s roles in organisations, especially at leadership level and that this was not just a moral imperative but also a strategic business decision.

Claire Baird, CEO of Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce, encouraged guests to champion women by engaging with the Chambers’ mentoring programme ‘Connect Me’.

After lunch, guests were asked to make a pledge. The pledge was to agree to play a part in ensuring that our future generation of women across Ayrshire are supported and empowered to contribute to a better future for everyone.

Angela Cox, Principal and CEO, Ayrshire College, said: “I was delighted to host so many inspirational women to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024.

“Ayrshire College is committed to promoting and celebrating diversity, equality and inclusion, so it is encouraging that the Ayrshire community are willing to support each other and our future generation of leaders.”

Claire Baird, CEO, Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce, said“This event on International Women’s Day at the College was a great opportunity to meet women from throughout Ayrshire and the perfect platform to talk about the Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Connect Me’ initiative.

“We must help shape the next generation of women business leaders, as diversity in leadership helps foster cultures and mindsets ensuring we feel valued and that we belong.”
